The Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC) is a constitutionally established regulatory agency responsible for overseeing public utilities, corporate filings, securities regulation, and railroad and pipeline safety in Arizona. It ensures fair rates and reliable services from utilities such as electricity, gas, and water providers while promoting renewable energy initiatives. The ACC also regulates the offer and sale of securities to protect investors from fraud and maintains corporate records for businesses and nonprofits operating in the state. Additionally, it enforces compliance with state laws and monitors the safety of railroads and pipelines. Comprised of five elected commissioners serving staggered four-year terms, the ACC operates independently, making it one of the most influential regulatory bodies in Arizona.

Senators serve six-year terms, with federal elections occurring every two years. To ensure continuity, the Senate is divided into three groups, or “classes,” comprising 33, 33, and 34 senators (Class I, Class II, and Class III, respectively). This staggered system allows approximately one-third of the Senate to face re-election during each cycle. Since every state has two senators, each state is represented by two of the three classes, leaving one class unrepresented. In Arizona’s case, the state does not have a Class II senator.
